NATIVE TALKS

Standing in a
Chain saw repair
Shop waiting for a

New chain to be
Fitted onto her
Homelite, most of

Us standing close
To the woodstove,
Gloves icy, she

Said how today
Oodles of geese
Flew over her farm

Back Issue, Fall 2005

VINEGAR

Native ran skidder in the
Woods and drove a brand
New GMC pickup with three
Jonsereds grubby in the
Back bed and when the
Winch on the skidder -
A Hercules - acted up,
Couldn't pick the hitch
Of logs over a stump,
Native didn't know what to do

So he drove ten miles back
To town and called his boss
Who called the former
Skidder owner, and when
I saw him later in the
Day pouring regular
Kitchen vinegar
Over the winch gears -
Same vinegar we
Jar in our pickles -
He said, "I know it looks
Crazy but it's what the

Guy who used to own this

Said to do"

Over $50,000 of
Equipment stranded
Until Native screwed off
$1.29 cap of vinegar
