Far
Above Mortal Issues
In one of those rare,
but strangely frequent moments
in our marriage,
we both awoke in the dark
of the night--
this time to the sound
of geese riotously passing
over our roof.
I imagined the V
formation barely visible against
the inky sea of night sky;
while anchored in the warmth
of our bed,
our legs twined together
and her left arm draped
over my chest,
I ascended on my own flight
of sleep,
far above the houses of mortal
issues, neighborhoods of
responsibility,
streets of feeling.
